initially, sasha sets his mind to a noble goal: he would ensure that no others had to suffer for gifts that were beautiful. he spent his own childhood on the run, moving on to a new place before his or his mother’s abilities became known. he remembers being driven from town, the violence they both endured. he suspects that his mother suffered far worse.he offers his service to the king, rendering himself indispensable and humbling his pride to serve faithfully. in exchange for his victories, he forsakes any monetary or other payment and asks instead for the right to establish the second army. he couches it in pretty words, promised soldiers for the monarch to use at his whim. he could give the grisha a role in society, permit them to serve and contribute. he would also teach them to fight, to defend themselves and to harness their abilities.his own pride in his abilities, and in those he served with, spurs him on to experiment after experiment, lusting after the legendary power of his grandfather and carried away by his own potential. when his powers escape his control, flooding out through him and creating the fold, he reminds the people of ravka why they feared the grisha.the black heretic disappears, and sasha spreads rumors—the fold was not an experiment gone wrong, but rather a mad man’s vision. power in the wrong hands is better than power gone wrong, for if the Grisha are monitored, they need fear no such outbursts. after a few years, sasha turns to a corporalki with the gift to shape his features, letting him remold his face temporarily into a form unrecognizable. then, he returns to the king’s court, kneeling in humble subservience and vowing that he will set right the damage.

sasha's new identity becomes the first in a line of shadow summoners “dedicated” to eradicating the fold. he takes no true steps toward that aim; instead, he seeks to expand it, recognizing its potential. he could control people through fear, and if he controlled them, he and the grisha would have their place and need bow to none. he came to see it as their rightful place to rule, for they were special, superior.at the start, he saw each grisha as an individual, appreciated their unique talents and how those talents interwove with their personalities to make them who they were. then, he knew each by name, conversed with them, was one of them.over the centuries and several new aliases, he has lost not only his grasp on who he was ( each name bears with it a new distinctive identity which he tries so hard to embrace to avoid blowing his cover ), but also his clarity of sight in regards to those around him. distinctive faces have blurred, and now he forgets names, mixing the living with the dead. they are all the same, the same gifts repeated ad infinitum. over the centuries, his inability to control the fold, to harness it to his will and his purposes, has led him to seek other ways to gain the fear and respect of the people of ravka. he became ruthless not so much out of intentional cruelty but by design and by a disconnect from those around him that grew with each passing decade. now, the grisha scarcely seem like living breathing individuals. they have become tools in machinations that even he loses sight of occasionally. while they crave his attention, compelled by his power and mystery and the occasional glimmer of affection that creeps through to span the distances between them, they recognize that he scarcely sees them.as the darkling, he eschews a name entirely, content to once more display his power in all its force as the most powerful shadow summoner since the creation of the fold. it’s easier now to hide behind a title, not a name, to assume an identity that exists more in the minds of those who surround him than in his own design. it fuels his mystique, and therefore his status, and further distances himself from the grisha as one above them, their general, their tsar in all but name.

MAIN; born five years after cameron, casey grew up tagging along with his older brother when allowed to and burying himself in books when he wasn’t. where cam scraped by in school, casey excelled. where cam would rather be out on the sports field or hanging out with his buddies, casey preferred the quiet of the school library. his inclinations earned him more than a bit of bullying, and his overprotective big brother was always quick to intervene on his behalf, though it got cam sent home from school and a stern talking-to from their father on more than one occasion.

and where cam followed his father’s footsteps into the united states air force, as he’d never had any doubts he would, casey continued on to college at kansas state university with a full scholarship, and from there completed his doctor of veterinary medicine degree and a food animal veterinary certificate. he maintains a mixed practice (large and small animals), and though he has a small clinic he travels to most of his clients.

MAIN; though she grows up the daughter of a geneticist and an air force officer, ellie gravitates toward music and the performing arts. it begins with the harp her mother plays for her each night as a baby as she falls asleep. it continues into dancing, into theatre. upon graduation from high school, ellie travels to milan, italy, to study modern and historical harp. after five years spent studying and performing, ellie graduates with academic diplomas — the equivalent to bachelor’s and master’s degrees — in baroque and renaissance harp. she returns to the united states to pursue a doctor of musical arts degree in historical performance at jiuliard in nyc.post completion of her dma, ellie’s career spans across europe and the united states as she performs, participates in conferences, and conducts research. however, she generally considers milan her “home base.”

STAR TREK; ellie grows up in space, and over her early travels, she collects, and learns to play, musical instruments from various worlds, though the harp, which her mother plays for her during her childhood, always holds a special place in her heart. at the age of fifteen, ellie pursues university degrees in xenomusicology and historical harp performance on earth before venturing back to the stars while conducting research for her phd. she completes her degree at the age of twenty-three, and accepts a research position from her former university.she alternates between traveling the stars ( frequently, but not always, on starfleet vessels, due to a partnership with the university ) and spending weeks to months among the local people of her chosen cultures, recording and analyzing their music and its role in their society.ellie has romulan blood though her mother’s side. it is mildly distinguishable in her features and it will register on medical scans and affect treatment options.

GRISHAVERSE; though ellie’s power, the ability to manipulate soundwaves the way that squallers alter air pressure, manifests when she’s still a toddler, her corporalki mother keeps her sheltered, and she is never tested by examiners nor sent to the little palace and the darkling’s second army. once grown, she makes her way through the world as a musician. a need to travel and a curiosity for new places and new things has led her to travel throughout ravka, across the sea to novyi zem and kerch, and across the borders into fjerda and shu han.ellie’s abilities allow her to augment or nullify sounds, to change the pitch, to sense and manipulate soundwaves well below and well above the typical range of human hearing, to turn a clap into a sonic boom capable of physical damage, and to align frequencies to resonate with the human body, encouraging physical healing and influencing brain chemistry and emotions.

MAIN; after a career in international diplomacy, during which she brokers a dozen of the most sensitive treaties for the united nations, dr. elizabeth weir is selected by the new president of the united states to oversee the stargate program.elizabeth runs the stargate program for less than a year before accepting reassignment to the ancient outpost in antarctica. when dr. daniel jackson identifies the location of atlantis, elizabeth leads the expedition through the stargate to the pegasus galaxy.this verse will run canon compliant until episode 20 of season 3. however, they never launch the preemptive strike against the asurans, and elizabeth will remain leader of atlantis.

ATLANTIS AU; elizabeth steps through the stargate to atlantis, it’s with a different team. carefully hand-picked by elizabeth herself, the expedition harbors some of the brightest female minds.enough power resides in the zpms that, the city is able to remain, stable, upon the ocean floor, but the external shield continues to be powered by a slowly depleting zpm.this verse is open to anyone upon discussion, and features doctordonovan’s maeve donovan.

SGA S4 DIVERGENCE; elizabeth accompanies lt. colonel sheppard, dr. mckay, teyla, and ronon to the asuran homeworld on a heist to obtain a zpm to restore power to atlantis’s stardrive and salvage the city. however, the team returns to atlantis, forsaking the opportunity to reengage the asurans’ base directive to fight the wraith.elizabeth faces distrust from the ioa, who wonder how much of her is human and how much is replicator. they send colonel samantha carter to take command of atlantis, but permit elizabeth to remain upon the city, where she must wrangle with her new identity and what it means to be human.

MAIN; gabriel lorca assumes command of the uss discovery after the loss of his former ship, the uss buran. ambushed by klingon vessels and without nearby backup, the buran found itself facing imminent destruction — or imminent capture. the buran carried information valuable to the federation and the war effort. transmitting the information by any subspace bands risked exposure, and lorca refused to permit the ship’s last efforts to be in vain.
he transferred the information to a small drive, wiped it from the ship’s core, and boarded a shuttlecraft, knowing full well that even then he’d never escape the klingon ships surrounding them. he did one final thing before departing from the vessel: with the help of his first officer, he activated the self-destruction sequence to spare the crew the brutality they would face as klingon prisoners of war.the force of the explosion created a shockwave that carried the shuttlecraft far beyond the original site of the battle and provided the cover he needed to slip beneath the klingon sensors. the brilliance of the blast blinded him, however.

starfleet’s best doctors have been able to do much to heal his vision, but the initial work they did to restore his sight to him requires further follow up — follow up which he has so far refused. his eyes remain extremely sensitive to light and sudden shifts in light levels, and he suffers from ongoing migraines.he was always a no-nonsense captain, and the loss of the buran left lorca more focused and more stern, and in command of the uss discovery, he tolerates no argument and no failure: he won’t — he can’t — lose another crew.
starfleet medical cleared him, declared him fit for continued duty, but he concealed much of the trauma he suffered, and it manifests itself in his obsessions (with instruments and strategy of war, with the klingons themselves) and in paranoia. while part of him craves vengeance for the crew of the buran, his determination for victory in the war is mostly to ensure the safety of those left alive. if he has to push his crew to the breaking point to ensure that safety, he will do so.note: lorca is from the prime universe in this verse, though it follows events up to but not including the canon revelation of his identity.

MAIN; when nicole is lost to the past, she finds herself under the earnest belief that the library cannot be trusted. still with the best interests of earth and its people in mind, nicole sets out upon a path of preserving their safety by whatever means necessary: even if it means undermining the library itself.note: this verse disregards the final two episodes of season four.

STARGATE; talia's earliest memories are of the deep rumbling of her father’s voice as he sings, of her mother’s voice singing the lilting song of a lullaby. talia never knows herr parents. she's adopted by the kerrs ten years after the death of their eldest son, when sofia kerr decides she cannot stand not having a daughter. talia grows up the baby of the family, but theodore kerr can’t be bothered to coddle her. after raising four boys, he leaves his daughter to run wild.her new family is not musically inclined. she remembers huddling, seven years old, next to the radio in a blanket fort at her best friend’s home. she begs her parents for a little radio, but the first time her brother catches her listening to it and teases her for it, she cries for two hours. afterwards, she only ever listens to the radio with it tucked beneath her pillow at night.
she listens to everything: to the classical stations that lull her to sleep, to the country music that evokes in her a strange longing she cannot name, to the classic rock that her brother mason’s friends listen to in the car when the drive to pick him up, to the pop music that her friend treasures.

sofia’s work as a climatologist gives her opportunities to travel regularly for her work, both to conduct research and to attend symposiums, conferences, and the like. once Talia turns ten, sofia takes the girl with her, shamelessly pulling her out of school. everywhere she goes, she listens to the music. at eleven, she asks to play piano. not five months later, she asks about the viola. then the flute. then the French horn. then her requests get more obscure. she returns from her trips with indigenous instruments, most of which she cannot play.talia embarks upon an undergraduate degree in music and a ph.d. program in musicology. she’s graduated and off with a grant for research amidst the mansi and khanty peoples in russia when her mentor receives a particularly unique job offer. unwilling to leave his established position at the university, he’s quick to recommend talia for the job. she returns to the u.s. to consult for the stargate program.
